On December 7, 2012, Glen Gasstrom, New York State Good Sam Director, was honored to present a check for $1,500 on behalf of all New York State Good Sam members to the Central New York Veteran's Outreach Center. The Central New York Veteran's Outreach Center provides food, rental assistance, household goods, and linkages to VA health care, benefits and other services for struggling veterans. They are one of five in the country that has been selected for a pilot program to explore innovative early interventions to help prevent veteran homelessness targeted to service members returning from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. With the $1,500 raised at the New York State Good Sam Samboree, the Central New York Veteran's Outreach Center will be able to furnish a room in their building in Utica New York.
